The Wow Factor of Glass

At Vidrio, our Mediterranean-inspired menu, award-winning wine list, and creative craft cocktails are the cornerstone of any visit, but we don’t stop there. The Vidrio experience strives to wow you the moment you walk in the door.

In addition to our design elements of hand-painted tiles, mosaics, wooden dowels, rope chandeliers, original European furnishings, and custom guillotine windows, the focal point of our 13,500-square-foot space is a stunning dining room wall that features 350 glass bowls and orbs. The eye-catching creation covers the two-story wall in a kaleidoscope of colors, and “A moment for the time being” is painted underneath, inviting guests to forget their worries and savor the present.

Vidrio means “glass” in Spanish, so we wanted something spectacular to reflect that theme. Doug Frates, the artist behind the glass masterpiece, used silica from Italy to craft the vibrant orbs, which are designed to inspire visions of Mediterranean sunrises or sunsets over crystal-blue waters.

Ranked as one of the Top 60 Glass Artists in the World by Art Glass Today, Doug works to create avant-garde pieces that stretch the visual and technical boundaries of the art glass industry. Based in Springfield, Ohio, the former Marine stumbled upon his passion after casually enrolling in a glassblowing class as he searched for a civilian career after returning from Iraq in 2003. He now operates Doug Frates Glass and trains other veterans in his trade.

Our breathtaking glass wall is an unforgettable part of any visit to Vidrio. Let us transport you to the Mediterranean and immerse you in the sights, sounds, and smells of the region.
